Who Is Eligible
Undergraduates (including seniors) writing bylined general interest, editorial or specialized (humor, sports, business, arts, culture, etc.) columns appearing in print or online editions of college newspapers. Columns carrying dual bylines are eligible, but only one prize will be awarded.
Submit copies and links for three bylined columns published between March 1, 2016, and March 31, 2017, in this online form. One entry per student. No entry fee required.
Deadline for entry: Friday, April 21, 2017
$1,500 scholarship plus expense paid attendance at the 41st Annual Conference of the National Society of Newspaper Columnists (includes airfare, hotel, registration, and banquet meals) in Manchester, NH on June 8–11, 2017.
Award winners will be determined by judges chosen by the NSNCEF.

By participating in the writing contest, each entrant represents that his/her submission is original to the entrant, and all rights are exclusively owned and/or controlled by the entrant to the full extent necessary to enable NSNCEF to use the submission as contemplated by the contest rules. By participating, each entrant understands and agrees that neither the NSNCEF, their agents, affiliates, sponsors, or representatives have any liability with respect to any damages out of acceptance and use of a prize.
NSNCEF reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to immediately disqualify, without notice, any and all submissions that do not comply with the submission requirements set out in the rules, as determined by NSNCEF’s sole discretion. Submissions shall not be returned to the entrant for any reason. The contest is judged by the NSNCEF. The decisions of the judges are final.
In the event of a dispute regarding any aspect of the writing contest, NSNCEF will make the final ruling in its sole discretion. No communication or correspondence will be exchanged with entrants regarding such ruling(s) except with the entrants selected for a prize and/or unless otherwise required by law.
All taxes relative to the prize package are the sole responsibility of the winners. No prize substitutions, assignments or transfers. No cash equivalents. If winner is unable to attend the annual conference, the trip is forfeited.
By entering this contest, participants agree to be bound by these rules.
