The March 29, 2017, Dear Abby column, penned by Jeanne Phillips, promotes the Dear Abby College Columnist Scholarship Contest of the National Society of Newspaper Columnists Education Foundation.
In the familiar format, Abby fields two questions from fans with problems and the third is a Dear Readers letter explaining the contest for students who write columns in their campus newspapers. It features a top prize of a $1,500 scholarship and an all-expense-paid trip to this summer’s annual conference of the National Society of Newspaper Columnists. Previous scholarship recipients have found value in the weekend full of practical workshops plus opportunities to network with professional columnists, bloggers, authors and other writers.
NCNCEF President Eric Heyl shared the day’s Abby column on his Facebook page, writing,
Dear Abby,
Thanks for letting your millions of readers know in today’s column that you’ve generously agreed to sponsor The Dear Abby College Scholarship Program and Contest. And thanks for noting the program is administered by the National Society of Education Columnists Education Foundation, an organization whose president happens to be, uh, me.
