Longtime columnist Dear Abby, aka Jeanne Phillips, recently shared thoughts about the potential of young columnists and other journalists in a Q-and-A.
She is sponsoring the Dear Abby College Columnist Scholarship Program, the annual contest for college newspaper columnists. Three prizes will be awarded with first place getting a $1,500 scholarship and expenses paid to attend this summer’s annual conference of the National Society of Newspaper Columnists.
Abby shared her goals for the program, as well as her inspirations and words of wisdom in “An Interview with Dear Abby.”
The National Society of Newspaper Columnists Education Foundation, a 501(c)3 educational organization, oversees the scholarship.
Note that the deadline to enter the contest for the scholarship is Friday, April 21, 2017. Interested students are to submit on the form the online links to three published columns for each entry.
